Telepsychiatry Across New Mexico

At Solara Health and Wellness we see patients by secure video for the same reasons they would come into our Las Cruces office. Evaluations. Medication reviews. Follow up visits. Ongoing care for anxiety and depression and ADHD and more.

How a Telepsychiatry Visit Works

Distance stops a lot of people from getting mental health care. So do work schedules and childcare and the simple fact that some days leaving the house feels like too much. Telepsychiatry removes most of those barriers.

You are not getting a lesser version of care. You are seeing the same providers using the same clinical standards. The only thing that changes is the room you sit in.

Booking works exactly as it does for an office visit. Our team confirms your appointment and sends a secure link to your email or phone.

A few minutes before your slot you click the link. No app to download and no account to create. Your provider joins at the appointment time and the visit runs as it normally would.

If a prescription comes out of the visit we send it electronically to your pharmacy before you have closed the window. If lab work is needed we send the order to a lab near you.

You will need three things. A device with a camera. A reasonable internet connection. A private space where you can speak freely.

What We Handle by Video

  • Initial psychiatric evaluations A full first assessment can be completed by video in most cases.
  • Medication management Starting adjusting and reviewing psychiatric medicine.
  • Follow up visits Short regular check ins to track progress and catch side effects.
  • Treatment plan reviews Updating your written care plan as your needs change.
  • Refill reviews Renewing prescriptions in the context of a proper visit rather than blindly.
  • Coordination visits Sessions that include your therapist or a family member with your consent.

When You Still Need to Come In

We will always be straight with you about this rather than stretching video to cover things it should not.

An in person visit is usually needed when your care requires vital signs or a physical examination. It is also needed for certain lab draws and for some controlled medicines where state and federal rules require it.

If you are in crisis video is not the right setting. Call 911 if you are in immediate danger or call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline any time.

Your provider will tell you clearly if something needs an office visit and we will book it for you there and then.

Privacy and Security

Our video platform is encrypted and meets federal healthcare privacy requirements. Sessions are not recorded. Your side matters too. Use a private room rather than a shared space. Headphones help a great deal. Avoid public wifi for a visit where you plan to discuss anything personal. If a private space at home is genuinely not available tell our team. Some patients take their visit from a parked car and that is completely fine.

Does Telepsychiatry Actually Work

For most common conditions the research says yes. Studies comparing video psychiatric care with in person care have found similar results for diagnosis accuracy and symptom improvement and patient satisfaction.

There is also a quieter benefit that shows up in practice. People miss fewer appointments. Attendance drives outcomes more than almost anything else in psychiatry so a format people actually stick with tends to produce better results over a year.

Some people simply talk more freely from their own sofa than from a clinical room. If that is you the format is doing real work.

You can read more about how psychiatric treatments are used and studied on the NIMH mental health medications page and the NIMH overview of psychotherapies.
