Follow Up Psychiatric Visits in Las Cruces

Short regular check ins that keep your treatment moving in the right direction.

Follow Up Psychiatric Visits

The first appointment starts your treatment. The visits after it are what make treatment actually work. At Solara Health and Wellness we use follow up psychiatric visits to see how you are really doing once the plan has had time to settle in.

These visits are shorter than your first evaluation but they carry a lot of weight. We look at what has improved and what has not moved at all. We check whether your medicine is helping or quietly causing a new problem. We ask about sleep and appetite and energy because those tell us more than a rating scale ever will.

Mental health treatment is rarely right on the first try. Bodies respond differently. Life throws in new stress. A dose that felt perfect in March can feel too heavy by August. Follow up visits are where we catch that and fix it before it turns into a setback.

Why Follow Up Visits Matter So Much

Most people who stop treatment do not stop because it failed. They stop because a side effect went unmentioned or because nothing seemed to be changing and nobody explained why. Both of those are solved in a fifteen minute conversation.

Medicines used in psychiatry often need four to eight weeks before you feel the full effect. Without a check in during that window it is easy to assume the plan is not working and quit too early. We stay with you through that stretch.

Follow ups also protect your physical health. Some psychiatric medicines affect weight or blood pressure or thyroid levels. We watch those numbers so nothing builds up unnoticed.

What Happens During a Follow Up Visit

Your provider reads your chart before you walk in so you never have to repeat your whole story. The visit usually runs fifteen to thirty minutes depending on what is going on.

We start with the simple question of how things have been since we last spoke. Then we go deeper into specifics. How is your sleep. Are you eating normally. Has anything felt harder than usual. Are you taking the medicine as written or have you been skipping days.

If something needs to change we change it right there. You leave with an updated plan and a clear date for the next visit.

Who Should Book a Follow Up Visit

  • You recently started a new psychiatric medicine and want to know if it is working
  • Your symptoms have shifted since your last appointment
  • You are feeling a side effect and want it addressed
  • Your refills are running low and your plan needs a review
  • You are stable and want to keep it that way with regular check ins
  • You want to talk about lowering a dose or stopping something safely
  • Your therapist has asked for a medication review alongside your therapy

Follow Ups by Telehealth

Many follow up visits do not need you to be in the room. If your plan is stable and no lab work or physical check is due we can meet by secure video from anywhere in New Mexico.

Telehealth removes the drive and the parking and the time off work. That alone keeps a lot of people in treatment who would otherwise drift away. Some medicines and some monitoring still require an in person visit and we will always tell you clearly which is which.

Medication and Therapy Working Together

Follow up visits are not only about pills. If you are also in therapy we want to know how that is going because the two sides of treatment should be pulling in the same direction.

Sometimes the right move is more therapy and less medicine. Sometimes it is the opposite. The NIMH overview of psychotherapies is a useful read if you are weighing that up. Bring your questions to the visit and we will talk it through honestly.
